Since the show's release, “Bridgerton” styles and looks have been spiking on
social media. Initially starting on TikTok, the #BridgertonChallenge inspired many fans
and creators to create their own costumes, makeup looks, and hairstyles based on the
series. According to this Cosmopolitan article:
The challenge sees people comparing things like getting ready, flirting and gossiping in the 1800s to doing those same things today, with users stitching Netflix's clips of Bridgerton to their own, and people have really worked their comedic magic on these TikToks.

The TikTok challenge took a new direction with YouTube creators making lengthy tutorials explaining how to re-create the looks and styles inspired by the series. These tutorials include everything from hairstyles, makeup, and gowns.
The trend focuses on how to get the full look, including how to create embroidered gowns at home, a matte makeup look, including contouring the cheeks and using heavy blush, embracing curly hair while using hair accessories like ribbons, pearl headbands, and feathers. Fans and creators achieve the looks using cheap and easy-to-obtain materials and accessories and wear headbands, ribbons, pearl necklaces, earrings, and corsets.
I discovered the trend when I was doing some research about the series’ looks and style because I am obsessed with fashion trends and I wanted to know what's trending! I found that fans and YouTube creators have been discussing the trend already. And on YouTube, creators started posting lengthy videos on how to re-create those looks using cheap materials.
YouTube Creators Following the TikTok Challenge
Madelief is into sustainable fashion, thrifting, vegan cooking, and music. She posted this video on January 16, 2021, after being inspired by the “Bridgerton” challenge on TikTok. She created a royal core aesthetic lookbook, a transformation to the aesthetic popular from the TikTok challenge (and, of course, mainly popular because of the “Bridgerton” show).
Moving toward getting the full look, we have creators who shared tutorials on creating the full look on YouTube.

Angela Clayton is a hobbyist seamstress and costume maker. She makes a lot of historically inspired things and ruffly dresses. In her video, Angela uses weird color combinations, lace and creates her own gloves to create a Bridgerton costume! And her design inspired by the show is no exception!
Kirilee Cosplay is a cosplayer who loves making videos, such as tutorials, tips, and blogs on how to create custom-made dresses inspired by movie characters. Because Kirilee admired Penelope’s character in the show, she decided to create a similar look. On January 15, 2021, Kirilee posted a video showing how to create the full gown in the video plus the hairstyle, which is a must.
YouTube Creators Re-Creating Makeup Looks Inspired by the Show
Of course, not everyone is into creating gowns, and some fans and creators wanted to try the makeup looks from the show!

Jamie Glickman is an actress, tie-dyer, and cat lover, and she loves sharing everything from music to fashion & beauty. In her video, Jamie said she doesn’t own corsets or any gowns. However, she was inspired to create a powdered matt natural makeup look from the show. She likes how the makeup artists didn’t show the foundation or powder. They were learning to use natural makeup looks! However, in the show, makeup artists focused on creating a glow and focusing on the cheekbones.
Another YouTube creator followed the trend of creating makeup looks inspired by the show. Caitlin, whose channel is called candidcait, loves creating videos about style and beauty, books, cooking, and more. On January 9, 2021, Caitlin posted a video on how to create natural makeup looks. She focuses on using natural eyeshadow colors and contouring her cheeks.
YouTube Creators Re-Creating Hairstyles Inspired by the Show
Of course, the most important style that the show focused on the unique hairstyles and looks. We have three creators who unleashed their creativity to re-create hairstyle looks inspired by the show.

Many of the fashions of the Regency period were rooted in Ancient Greece. The hairstyle from the show focused on embracing curled, and styled hair looks. Typically the hair was styled up in a bun, high enough for the bun to be on display from the front, and the face was framed with loose bangs of curled and wavy hair.
In these three videos, each creator used a different style, and they used accessories like pearls and pearled headbands to re-create those looks from the show.
On January 7, 2021, Jackie Wyers, a makeup artist who creates makeup looks and hairstyles inspired by iconic TV and movie looks and beauty trends throughout history, created a video on making curls and wearing bright accessories by the show.
Anna, whose channel is called PrettyShepherd, creates hair tutorials infused with history and folklore. On January 10, 2021, she posted a video re-creating her own version of Cressida Cowper's over-the-top hairstyle after watching the show. She uses ribbons and hair braids.
On January 14, 2021, Mélissa Gll, a fashion and lifestyle YouTuber, created a video showing how to wear pearl headpieces, ribbons and embraced curly and wavy hair.
#TheBridgertonLook Fans and Creators Desperate to Wear Regency Corsets
According to British search engine Lyst,
Regencycore: Netflix announced this week that in its first four weeks, Bridgerton is set to be watched by over 63 million households. In the same timeframe it has sent searches for corsets (+123%), pearl and feather headbands (+49%), long gloves (+23%), and empire line dresses (+93%) soaring. Most viewed are; headpieces by Simone Rocha and Magnetic Midnight, corsets by Rasario and Dion Lee, and dresses by Brock Collection and Erdem.

Kitty Berry creates tutorials on making custom looks inspired by Disney characters like Princess Jasmine and Halloween costumes. On January 9, 2021, Kitty created a video on re-creating Regency short stays or corsets, inspired by a pair of grey satin stays Daphne wears in the show. After watching the show, Kitty was inspired by the beautiful costumes to make her own Regency ensemble. First, she wanted to create the right silhouette, the lifted bust, iconic to the Regency period. After making these stays, she plans to make a gown to go with it.

The trend is expected to spike and grow, especially since Netflix will release “Bridgerton” in season two.
